ravens
Spring - Fall 2013. Cast aluminum, cast bronze, mild steel. Sizes vary.
Scavengers who follow around wolf packs. Lovers who mate for life and protect their territory. Seen as fortuitous omens and sinister intentions. Ancient traditions, religious text and stories have told of man's relationship to ravens. Being woven into most religions as a symbol of death, curiosity, intelligence and wisdom. Their relationship with man is that of understanding that we have evolved withthem looming in trees, flying overhead, silently watching humanity for thousands of years.
Created using a methodology that predates some modern religions, the lost wax method has been with humanity for 6500 years. Leaving fingerprints to further the anthropomorphism into the realm of the physical. Using colors found in the natural world for patina. Capturing poses that interact with the viewer. Invoking the idea of ancient man and the techniques used to create them.
A NOTE FROM THE ARTIST…
The only thing that I have ever fully understood is my drive to create. I cannot remember a time when that was not the driving force in my life. And to this day and all the days that may come, I will continue on my journey as an artist. Exploring and creating my own existence in this world we share together will be something I do until I join the stars as matter and energy.
